When my big girl was younger she was afraid of a lot things. She was afraid of the taking a bath, anxious that the shower might turn on. She refused to participate in birthday parties, clung to me and begged me to stay with her. She didn't want me to sign her up for an after school class or camp unless she had a friend to go with her. Even then, I still had to coax her into going on the first day.
My heart broke every time I saw the fear on her face.
It caused me to struggled with my own childhood memories of fear. I wanted her to try the things I never tried. I wanted her to take the risks I was afraid to take. I could not convince her out of her fright. The only thing I could do was pray. I gathered a bunch of scriptures on the topic and inserted her name. I prayed that she would have courage and that the love of God would fill her heart and push out fear (1 John 4:18). The women in my Moms in Prayer Group prayed this too.
Slowly, things began to see a change.
One of the things I want most for my children is be courageous and know that God is with them. Jesus came to give us abundant life. I believe we were meant to try new things and take risks to discover who God created us to be. When fear holds us back, we know based on scripture, this is not from our loving Father.
I want my little ones to jump right into what God has for them.
Here are some scripture verses on fear.
